Webinar: Categorizing Content with Taxonomy
September 12, 2024 at 12:00 PM EST
Taxonomy is a versatile feature that allows you to do a number of things in OpenScholar. For example, you can:
- Tag team members by role
- Add filters so site visitors can see just your PIs, post-docs, or other members by role.
- Create custom team pages then add them as submenu items, allowing visitors to go directly to each page based on role.
- Tag content according to its associated grant, allowing visitors to see published work, people, or news related to each one.
These are just a few things you can do with taxonomy. Come to this webinar and we’ll show you how to create taxonomy and share some ideas for how you can incorporate this feature into your site.

Go beyond OpenScholar’s preset pages to build a custom page for your website. In this session, we’ll review how to customize a page’s layout using different widgets, such as:
- Accordion - Great for pages with a list of topics, where each section can be expanded or closed
- Button Collection - Add clickable buttons
- Callout Banner - If you like websites with large horizontal imagery or block color across the top of the page, you’ll love the callout banner
- Column Widget - Display information in columns for a uniform look
- Custom Text/HTML - An open text or image widget
- LOP (List of Posts) - add this to a page to display specific information, such as people tagged by role.
- Slide Show - Visitors can click through a series of pictures
